YEO HOE KOON 杨可均

Yeo Hoe Koon, born in 1935 in Hainan, China, moved to Singapore as a young boy and later became one of the country’s most respected second-generation artists. He trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in the mid-1950s before heading to Paris to study at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. From 1965 to 1968, Yeo embarked on an extended art tour across Europe, an experience that broadened his creative vision and deepened his artistic voice.

Back in Singapore, Yeo combined a career in art education with an unwavering dedication to painting. Over the decades, he developed a style that merges Eastern sensitivity with Western abstraction, creating works that balance lyrical brushstrokes, vibrant colours, and a quiet, contemplative energy. His oil, acrylic, and ink paintings are recognised for their sense of movement and poetry, offering viewers an intimate yet expansive experience.

Yeo has held more than 30 solo exhibitions and taken part in over 80 group shows throughout Asia and Europe. His works are represented in major public and private collections, including the Singapore Art Museum, UOB, and DBS. Widely regarded as a bridge between traditions and modernity, Yeo Hoe Koon remains a vital figure in Singapore’s art history, admired for his lifelong commitment to artistic exploration.
